The system is designed for courier companies who need to receive a large number of packages from a regional or national hub, and to distribute these by postcode into a series of vans for local delivery, with each such van being responsible for delivery to a specific group of postcodes.
The system reads the postcode on the package labels, and routes them to individual output lanes – one for each local delivery area – for loading onto the relevant van. (typically the output lanes would be adjacent to each vans loading bay).
In ‘reverse’ mode, the system receives all of the packages FROM the delivery vans as they pick up packages from local customers, and sorts them into two groups; those for forwarding on to the national hub, and those that are to be retained for local delivery, and fed back into the system on the next delivery cycle.
